DEMOCRATIC CHALLENGER WILL ROLLINS CONTINUES TO BUILD MOMENTUM AGAINST INCREASINGLY VULNERABLE KEN CALVERT
Democrats surpass Republicans in voter registration as Rollins raises more than $1,000,000, beats Calvert in latest FEC report, and announces new endorsements
PALM SPRINGS, CA — Democratic congressional candidate and former national security prosecutor Will Rollins announced today that he outraised Republican Ken Calvert in the final FEC reporting period ahead of the June 7 primary, bringing his total raise to more than $1,000,000 overall. Rollins is the first challenger in history to raise more than $1,000,000 against Calvert, and the record-breaking amount comes just as the number of registered Democrats surpassed the number of registered Republicans for the first time ever in California’s new 41st congressional district.
In addition to the new fundraising and voter registration data, Rollins announced a slate of new endorsements, including from Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren, Chair of the California Democratic Congressional Delegation; Congressman Adam Schiff; Congressman Mondaire Jones; Congressman Seth Moulton; Congressman Pete Aguilar; the Communication Workers of America; the Office & Professional Employees’ International Union (OPEIU); and the California chapter of the National Organization of Women. He has previously received endorsements from former U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer, Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis, Congressman Raul Ruiz, and Congressman Mark Takano, among others.
In addition to elected officials, Rollins received the endorsement of the California Labor Federation and every major Democratic club in California’s 41st congressional district for which candidates are independently eligible, including from the Democrats of the Desert; Democratic Women of the Desert; the Democrats of Southwest Riverside County; Desert Stonewall Democrats; Palm Desert Greens Democrat Club; and the Yucaipa-Calimesa Democrats.
Rollins is the only Democratic candidate endorsed by any sitting members of Congress, statewide officeholders, or major Democratic clubs in the new congressional district. Moreover, FEC records show that, overall, he has outraised all other challengers in the race against Calvert by at least $500,000. (Rollins’ Report & Calvert’s Report)
Rollins issued the following statement:
“Voters are ready for a change. In light of the recent attacks on women’s reproductive freedom and endless mass shootings, people are demanding action from their elected leaders. Ken Calvert has voted against women, against violent history checks for gun sales, and he’s continuing to rake in donations from the NRA – more than any other California congressperson from 1998 to 2016. The people of the Inland Empire and Coachella Valley deserve someone who will fight for working families instead of the gun lobby, Q-Anon, and price-gouging corporations. I’m grateful for the outpouring of support we’ve received, and will continue to work to earn the trust of Democrats, Republicans, and Independents alike.”
