DEMOCRAT WILL ROLLINS CONDEMNS JUSTICE ALITO’S DRAFT OPINION IN DOBBS V. JACKSON, REP. KEN CALVERT’S STANCE ON WOMEN’S RIGHTS
PALM SPRINGS, CA — Last night, POLITICO reported a leaked initial draft majority opinion written by Justice Alito that suggests that the Supreme Court plans to overturn Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey.
Will Rollins issued the following statement regarding the Supreme Court’s draft opinion and Ken Calvert’s opposition to the Women’s Health Protection Act:
“Justice Alito’s draft opinion is a horrifying reminder that the repressive far-right will never fully understand women’s equality, or that freedom means the same thing for women as it does for men.
“Access to abortion must be protected by Congress before tens of millions of American women lose the ability to control their own lives, health, and safety. That means passing the Women’s Health Protection Act (WHPA) now, because the risk of this draft becoming a final opinion is bad enough.
“Voters in Riverside County should ask Rep. Calvert not only why he believes women don’t deserve the same reproductive freedom as men, but how he plans to pay for hundreds of millions of new, government-mandated pregnancies if he gets his wish for total control of American women and their bodies.
“Voters also need to know just how dangerous Rep. Calvert’s record is on women’s rights: he’s not only tried to overturn Roe, he believes that rapists should be permitted to sue doctors that provide abortion care to child victims of incest, and he voted against a bipartisan law that made it illegal to barricade abortion clinics.”
Rollins has Shattered Fundraising Records in His Bid to Defeat Rep. Ken Calvert in the 2022 Midterms
Last month, Rollins announced that he had already raised nearly $800,000 in his campaign against Republican Ken Calvert after just five months in the race, shattering the all-time fundraising record for any candidate to challenge Calvert since he was first elected in 1992.
A new third-party poll also showed that only 17% of voters in the newly-drawn congressional district would reelect Calvert, and that Rollins leads Calvert in a head-to-head contest by 10 points when voters learn of the incumbent’s scandal-plagued career.
Rollins has earned the endorsement of many prominent Democrats across California, including former U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer, Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis, Congressman Raul Ruiz, Congressman Mark Takano, Congresswoman Jackie Speier, Congressman Mike Levin, Congressman Brad Sherman, Mayor Lisa Middleton of Palm Springs, and Mayor Tim Sheridan of Lake Elsinore.
