FORMER REPUBLICAN LEADER OF CA STATE ASSEMBLY ENDORSES
WILL ROLLINS FOR CONGRESS
Assemblymember Chad Mayes, once again, chooses country over party
PALM SPRINGS, CA — Democratic congressional candidate and former federal prosecutor Will Rollins announced today that CA State Assemblymember Chad Mayes has endorsed his campaign for congress in CA-41. Mayes, who has represented a portion of the newly drawn CA-41 since 2014, was elected Republican Leader by his peers after only ten months in office and served as the leader through 2017, until several of his votes were deemed too moderate for the Party. He changed his party affiliation and now serves as the only Independent in the CA state legislature.
Mayes said: “I love our state and I love this country. Over the last seven years, I have seen first-hand the dangers of partisan politics. Blind faith to political teams has created a toxic tribalism that is tearing this country apart. Rep. Ken Calvert voted against certifying the 2020 presidential election results; he called for dropping charges against the January 6th attackers; and he voted against electoral count reforms that will ensure free and fair elections. We need leaders who are willing to stand up for what’s right, and to stand for all of the people, and not just one president or party. That’s why I’m proud to endorse Will Rollins in California’s 41st Congressional District.”
Rollins said: “I am honored to have the support of Assemblymember Chad Mayes. We both firmly believe in our country and our democracy. Assemblymember Mayes famously put the needs of his constituents first, and sacrificed his leadership role for it. Like me, he values bipartisanship and service more than serving any one person or party. Our nation faces complex problems, and it will take all of us working together to solve them and to fully represent the people of this District.
“I come from a family of Republicans and Democrats, and I truly believe that if we can get past the partisan nonsense, and agree on basic facts, we have more in common than what divides us. Assemblymember Mayes and I agree on this, and I look forward to working with him and with other Independents and Republicans, along with my fellow Democrats, on behalf of everyone in CA-41.”
Assemblymember Mayes’ endorsement adds to an impressive list of national, state and local endorsements for Will Rollins, including the Los Angeles Times, Congressman Raul Ruiz, Congressman Mark Takano, CA Governor Gavin Newsom, CA Attorney General Rob Bonta, U.S. Senator Alex Padilla, U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer (ret.), Lt. Governor Eleni Kounalakis, Congressman Adam Schiff, Congresswoman Jackie Speier, Congressman Brad Sherman, Congressman Mike Levin, and many more.
