To members of the Riverside County community affected by the conflict in the Middle East,
The violence occurring in Gaza and Israel over the past 11 months, which, according to various reports, has tragically claimed over 1,400 Israeli and 40,000 Palestinian lives—most of them innocent civilians—is profoundly heartbreaking. This conflict has deeply affected many individuals within our local Riverside County communities in a personal and distressing way. Throughout this campaign, I have had the privilege of meeting with family members and friends of innocent Palestinians and Israelis who have lost their lives due to the war. While no words can alleviate their pain, I extend my heartfelt condolences to those who will never again share a laugh or embrace with their loved ones. The harrowing images of the deceased, especially the children whose lives were tragically cut short, resonate with all of us who yearn for peace.
I fully agree with Vice President Harris that it is essential for this conflict to end through the release of hostages and individuals unlawfully detained, including our fellow Americans. We must secure an immediate ceasefire, alleviate the suffering of Palestinians in Gaza, and uphold their rights to freedom, dignity, and self-determination.
If elected to Congress, I am committed to pursuing the long-term goal of a two-state solution. Despite the challenges ahead, I firmly believe that this is the only viable path to lasting peace for the region and its inhabitants.
Before entering politics, I dedicated my career as a federal prosecutor to combating violent extremism and protecting our communities from all forms of hate, including Islamophobia and anti-Semitism. The recent characterization of “Palestinian” as an ethnic slur by former President Trump is unacceptable. We need leaders who will denounce all forms of bigotry and actively listen to our local Muslim, Jewish, and Christian communities, as well as all constituents, regardless of their faith or beliefs.
If elected, I pledge to implement compassionate and informed policies that uphold the dignity, rights, and security of all individuals, while addressing these complex issues with the care and wisdom they require.
Let us collectively condemn mass violence against civilians and strive to alleviate and prevent further suffering among victims. As we denounce extremism, let us also respond to the rising tide of hatred by affirming our shared humanity.
