WHILE ROLLINS ACCEPTS THREE DEBATE INVITATIONS, NO AGREEMENT FROM CALVERT

New ad from Rollins’ campaign calls out Calvert’s refusal to debate

CORONA, C.A. — Will Rollins, the Democratic nominee for California’s 41st District, accepted his third debate invitation late last week. On the other hand, Ken Calvert has yet to accept a single debate invitation. Calvert also refused to appear in a single debate during the 2022 midterm election.

After calling in August for three debates in the general election, Rollins has now accepted invitations from KTLA, KESQ, and NPR LA.

“Voters deserve an opportunity to hear from their candidates for Congress,” said Rollins. “After thirty years, Ken Calvert thinks he’s too good to take voters’ questions and back up his own record. Which begs the question: what business would ever hire an employee who refuses to sit down for a job performance review? It’s yet another reason why we must retire Calvert this November.”

The Rollins campaign isn’t letting Calvert off the hook. After releasing an online video last month highlighting Calvert’s refusal to commit to debating, Rollins’ campaign is now up with a new billboard ad on the 15 in Corona holding Calvert accountable for his debate dodging:

“Ken Calvert has no problem taking shots at Will Rollins on social media every day, but when he’s asked to do his job, stand on a debate stage, and face tough questions? Total silence,” said Coby Eiss, Rollins’ Campaign Manager. “Clearly, Calvert is not confident in his own debate performance ability. It’s evident that he would rather spend his time with lobbyists and special interest donors than have to answer as to why he voted against capping the cost of insulin at $35, voted to enact the SALT cap that raised taxes on California families, voted against capping seniors’ prescription drug costs at $2,000 a year, and voted against $300 million in infrastructure projects for Riverside County.”

Calvert has been conspicuously absent from local events in recent weeks, not attending Norco’s annual Labor Day Parade earlier this month. With under 60 days to go until Election Day, the 41st could come down to just a handful of votes, making every interaction with voters count.

Will Rollins is a Palm Springs resident and Southern California native. A former federal prosecutor and counterterrorism law attorney, he is now the Democratic nominee for Congress in California’s 41st Congressional District. California’s 41st District is shaping up to be a key 2024 matchup that will help decide the House majority. Punchbowl News called it the #2 most critical race in the battle for control of the House, and the National Journal ranked it as one of its 15 seats most likely to flip this November.
